KEY POINTS:
A carload of women who turned up at a Tauranga house early yesterday got a surprise when they tried to attack the occupants, one with an axe.
Police were already at the house doing a bail check. Officers were standing at the back door when the women approached the front of the house, one lunging at a teenager inside with a tomahawk.
Police said the officers managed to disarm the assailant, but not before she had struck the victim with the handle three times.
Another of the trio then tried to intervene as police arrested the woman.
A 54-year-old woman was charged with assault with a weapon, namely a tomahawk, and her daughter was charged with obstruction.
