KEY POINTS:
Police are still deciding whether to lay charges following a crash between a car and a high school mini bus in Hawke's Bay.
Eight Gisborne high school students and their teacher, who was driving the mini bus, were hospitalised following the crash last night.
The students had been discharged, but the teacher and driver of the car were still in Hawke's Bay hospital with minor injuries today, Napier police said.
The Lytton High School mini bus, on a school trip, was returning to Gisborne when it crashed on State Highway 2 near Putorino, between Napier and Wairoa, about 6.30pm.
Police had been able to speak to the drivers of both vehicles today and it appeared the driver of the southbound car had crossed the centre-line, lost control and collided with the mini bus.
Police were still deciding whether to lay charges.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the crash.
