Christchurch police say they will try to halt a "Kiddyfest" party which is advertising strippers on stage.
Inspector Gary Knowles, central city area commander, said police would move to shut the Underground club in Bath Street for any breaches, including under-age drinking, after seeing posters circulating for tonight's party.
The poster has the title "Kiddyfest" and an image of a young boy with no pants on. It has been advertised as an all-age gig with strippers onstage.
Mr Knowles said he was "appalled" at the poster and the Bebo websites he had seen associated with the heavy metal bands for party, including Gorehouse and Innard Splatter.
"When I read it I was just gobsmacked. Kiddyfest has quite nasty connotations," he told The Press.
Christchurch City Council said the club did not have consents to use the venue and was operating illegally .
Bill Goode, the club's tenant, said the Underground had been running since the start of the month without problems.
His son, Byron, and friend Dylan Anderson, both 15, were managing the venue.
He said police had got "the wrong end of the stick" about the posters which were made by a member of a band playing at the party.
"It wasn't a sanctioned poster and we told the guy to put pants on the kid and take the strippers off.
"It was a stupid thing to do, but we are dealing with kids."
