Police may suspend search for missing Auckland woman Carissa Avison

Police will decide this evening whether to continue the search for missing Auckland woman Carissa Avison.

The 21-year-old went missing after she was last seen at the Hunting and Fishing store in Holder Place, Rosedale, on the North Shore, about 10am last Thursday.

Police said Avison received a ride from Holder Place to Coast Rd in Muriwai, arriving at about 11am the same day.

Since then police have focused efforts to find Avison in Woodhill Forest, but may suspend the search this evening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Iain Chapman said the area near the corner of Coast and Grass Track Rds would continue to be where police concentrated its resources.

"We are asking members of the public who have used the Woodhill Forest area in the last week and seen anything you believe may be of assistance to contact police.

"Police are concerned given the length time of she has not made contact with friends or family, as this is out of character for her.

"We have previously said that we have no reason to suggest any foul play, which is still the case."

Police have remained tight-lipped over Avison's disappearance, and will not discuss what purchases she may have made at the hunting store, if she knew the driver of the car which took her to Muriwai, or why the disappearance is not considered suspicious.

Chapman said police will continue to search today, but a decision will be made this evening on whether the operation will be suspended.

Avison was last seen wearing black Nike sports shoes with white soles, black three-quarter length leggings and a white t-shirt.

She may also have been wearing a turquoise coloured snow board jacket and was carrying a dark blue Country Road canvas duffel bag.

"We know that Woodhill Forest is a very busy recreational area and we continue to ask members of the public who may be in the area over the long weekend to get in touch with us if they see anything that may be relevant to the investigation," Chapman said.
