Two police officers may have seen the Blenheim bar incident that led to the death of a man at the weekend.
Matthew Heagney, 24, died in Blenheim's Wairau Hospital early on Sunday after he suffered head injuries outside Shapeshifters bar about 2.40am.
His death is being treated as suspicious but police are saying little else.
The Marlborough Express reported that it understood Mr Heagney was being escorted from the bar before he suffered the injuries and that at least two officers may have seen what happened.
Senior Sergeant Ciaran Sloan of Blenheim police confirmed to the paper that police officers were among witnesses being questioned.
Shapeshifters co-owner Julian Campbell said a police car was parked across from the bar when Mr Heagney was injured and officers were on the scene immediately after the incident.
A rotating CCTV camera is mounted near the bar but Mr Sloan would not confirm if any images related to Mr Heagney's death had been captured.
