Police have uncovered a major cannabis cultivating operation in an Auckland industrial area and say the plants could have fetched up to $1 million.
Armed officers and detectives raided the Albany site early this morning and found 30 growing pods set up inside, each with plants at varying stages of maturity.
Each pod was set up with its own equipment, ranging from extraction fans to heat lamps, and was enclosed in foil-lined black zip up casing.
The investigation is ongoing but it is thought more than 1000 plants and about the same number of seedlings. A man was taken into custody and is currently being spoken to by police.
Detective Inspector Greg Cramer told the Herald the find was "significant" and the most sophisticated he had encountered.
