Police looking for Subaru after crash

Police are searching for a vehicle that may have been at the scene of a serious crash near Nelson.

The occupants of a red Subaru WRX may have witnessed the crash in which a 20-year-old man was seriously injured, Motueka police said.

Four young men were travelling on the Coastal Highway toward Mapua, 31km west of Nelson, when their vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with several large trees about 1am yesterday.

The injured man, a rear passenger, was hospitalised with serious head and chest injuries.

The three other men escaped with minor injuries.
