Police looking for owners of shipping containers of stolen property

Police are continuing to identify the owners of seven shipping containers of stolen property recovered in Pukekohe, South Auckland, last month.

The shipping containers along with trailer loads of stolen property were found last Wednesday after police searched three addresses.

Counties Manukau South Acting Area Commander Inspector Mark Rowbottom said police have identified property stolen from Whenuapai to Waiuku, as well as from the South Island.

"We are still working our way through the high number of items we have found.

"We have already contacted a number of relieved victims to tell them we have identified their property and arranged to get it back to them."

Rowbottom said people cannot view the stolen items if they have not made a report to police or do not have serial numbers or specific identifying features.

"The staff have done an excellent job in recovering these items and we now hope that we will be able to return all of it to its rightful owners," said Rowbottom.

"Burglary and theft is a serious crime that hugely impacts victims, especially if means they cannot carry out their work due to their tools being stolen."

Rowbottom said the recovered goods were a reminder of the importance of recording serial numbers for property.

"It is vital that police can easily identify who stolen property belongs to when we recover it, so that we can get it back to its rightful owners."
