Wellington police investigating a stabbing in suburban Kilbirnie this week are looking for a good Samaritan who heroically intervened and saved the victim from further harm.
A 46-year-old Miramar man was stabbed outside Bay Road shops in the suburb about 2.30pm on Tuesday. He suffered wounds to the chest and back in the attack, and has since been discharged from Wellington Hospital.
A 64-year-old man, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, appeared in Wellington District Court yesterday and was remanded on bail to reappear next month.
Detective Sergeant Mike Priston of Wellington City CIB said the good Samaritan was heroic in his actions, which prevented the victim from receiving any further stab wounds, and police wanted to find him as they continue investigating the incident.
The man was described as a tall Maori or Pacific Islander of solid build. He was wearing shorts with work boots, and a light-coloured unzipped hooded sweatshirt.
"After the incident the man walked away from the scene, before attending officers were able to speak to him," Mr Priston said.
"We're very keen to talk to him to help us with our ongoing enquiries into the matter and urge him to contact us."
