Police investigating the death of an Upper Hutt man are searching for a distinctive hooded sweatshirt discarded by his alleged attacker.
Father-of-two Kane Temarama, 26, died on Sunday afternoon when his life support was turned off at Wellington Hospital.
He had suffered severe head injuries when he was attacked in Upper Hutt's High Street in the early hours of Sunday, after drinking with friends.
Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson said this afternoon police wanted find the sweatshirt in order to piece together the events before and after the assault.
A CCTV image showed the alleged offender wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white hood and a pocket in the front with the words 'Kenneys 96' or similar on the front of it.
A 22-year-old man, who has interim name suppression, charged with assaulting Mr Temarama made a second appearance in Upper Hutt District Court today.
Judge Michael Behrens further remanded him in custody until September 22.
