KEY POINTS:
Police believe they have found the body of missing Northland eye surgeon Dr Geoffrey Martin Wallace, in the Whangarei Harbour.
The body was found on Snake Bank by a helicopter that was involved in a private search organised by Dr Wallace's family.
The 46-year-old disappeared on October 24th, as he motored across Whangarei Harbour in a small 2.7 metre aluminium dinghy from One Tree Point to Home Point.
He was not wearing a lifejacket when he set off, and the following day the dinghy, without its motor, was found.
Searchers subsequently found one of Dr Wallace's shoes near where the dinghy was found at Home Point on the northern side of the harbour. His other shoe was found at Darcy Pt, near the harbour entrance.
