An investigation is under way in Oamaru after police discovered the body of an Oamaru man in a shopping block on the corner of Arun and Hull Sts late on Saturday afternoon.
Police went to the site - which contains Danny's Butchery, Lego Addiction and Kelly's Cakes - after next of kin raised concerns about a 47-year-old man, officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie, said yesterday.
The block was cordoned off and security guards put in place overnight until yesterday morning, when a team of about 15 investigators, including police, forensics and a police photographer, were brought together for a briefing at 9am to start the investigation.
The identity of the man has not been released.
