KEY POINTS:
Lower Hutt police are investigating the armed robbery of a Wainuiomata bank this morning.
The incident happened just after 11am when a masked man carrying a cut-down firearm entered the Kiwibank in Wainuiomata and demanded money.
After taking an amount of cash, he fled down Queen Street towards the Wainuiomata community centre.
Police said three staff members and two customers were in the bank at the time and had been spoken to and offered counselling.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, about 183cm tall and of slim build.
He was wearing a dark coloured hooded sweatshirt, dark trackpants and cream coloured gloves.
He carried a dark blue bag with a white stripe.
