A 26-year-old Oamaru man was shot in the leg and less than two hours later a shot was fired at a house while two people were inside it on Sunday.
The incidents in South Canterbury occurred just within hours of each other.
The 26-year-old man was taken to Timaru Hospital with a bullet wound in his thigh at 4.30pm.
A police media spokeswoman said the man was driven to the emergency department by a friend and police are investigating how the man was injured.
About an hour later, between 5.30pm and 6pm, police were called to an address at Kennels Rd in Washdyke, north of Timaru, after reports a shot was fired at a house. Two people, a man and child according to Fairfax, were in the house but were not hurt.
