Lower Hutt police are investigating a shooting in Naenae.
A local man was confronted outside his house at about seven o'clock last night.
A gun was fired, but the victim dived to safety and was fortunately not hurt. The bullet hit the house instead.
The offender then ran back to his car and raced off.
Area commander Inspector Mike Hill said he believed the victim was specifically targeted, but that it was too early to say whether the incident was gang related.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw either a silver Nissan Skyline or a silver Mitsubishi Galant.
