Wairarapa Police are investigating the death of a hunter in his late 20's in the Aorangi Forest Park, near Pirinoa earlier today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen, officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB says the man's hunting companion, a 59-year-old man, phoned police shortly before 2pm to report the death.
"Police are currently at the scene, which is some distance from the nearest road. We are now in the very early stages of the investigation. At this time, we cannot comment on the circumstances surrounding this man's death until we have interviewed witnesses from various hunting parties who were in the Aorangi Park area today."
The scene will remain guarded overnight and the body of the deceased male is likely to be removed tomorrow.
