KEY POINTS:
Police in Dunedin are investigating the death of a 22-month-old child at a suburban St Kilda property on Monday.
Detective Inspector Ross Pinkham, of Dunedin CIB, said today police were awaiting final results of a post mortem examination.
He said the circumstances surrounding the toddler's death gave "cause for concern".
"Staff from the Dunedin CIB have spent the past two days speaking with members of the deceased's family and completing other inquiries as part of their investigation," Mr Pinkham said.
Environmental and Scientific Research (ESR) staff from Christchurch were assisting in a forensic examination of the Normanby St property, which was expected to be completed today.
Mr Pinkham said Otago regional coroner David Crerar released the child's body to family yesterday after the post mortem examination was completed.
