KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating a fire which ravaged a vehicle workshop in west Auckland this morning.
The Fire Service was called about 5.10am to the blaze at the New Lynn Compliance Centre in Drury St, New Lynn.
About 10 appliances were called out to the fire, which also spread to a nearby unoccupied accommodation centre.
Avondale Fire Station officer Dave Woon said the blaze was well involved and took some time to bring under control.
He said it appeared there was severe damage to about three or four cars which were at the centre, which takes care of damage and warrants of fitness to cars.
Mr Woon said it was unclear whether the fire was deliberately lit, but police were involved in the investigation into the cause as well as fire safety officers.
He said there was still some danger at the scene as there was an acetylene tanker present.
"They are inherently unstable so we will be keeping a close eye on that."
