Police investigating after man’s body found in Stoke, Nelson

Police are investigating the “unexplained” death of a man whose body appeared to have been at a Nelson address “for some time” before officers discovered it last night.fri jan10

The police officers became aware of the body during an unrelated visit to a Suffolk St address in the Nelson suburb of Stoke at about 8pm, Detective Inspector Lex Bruning said.

“The man’s body appears to have been there for some time, and the circumstances are unclear at this stage.

“Police will be engaging ESR [the Institute of Environmental Science and Research] to assist with a full scene examination.”

The scene examination was expected to take several days, Bruning said.

There would also be a forensic autopsy at some point.

“The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the Stoke area while we carry out these inquiries.”
