A Tauranga child is in Starship Hospital in Auckland with critical injuries, and police are investigating.
They were called to a Tauranga suburb yesterday afternoon.
A spokeswoman said "police are investigating how the injuries were sustained and are conducting inquiries in the Maungatapu area this morning in relation to this investigation".
