Wairarapa detectives and forensic experts are conducting a scene examination at a Carterton house this morning following the unexplained death of a woman involving the use of a firearm late yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell, acting Wellington District field crime manager, said police ware still in the early stages of examining the scene at the King Street house.
Police were also interviewing the 27-year-old woman's husband, family and friends.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
The woman's husband called police about 4.20pm yesterday to alert them to the death, Mr Borrell said.
The husband and his deceased wife were the only people at the house when police arrived yesterday afternoon.
"We're confident that a post mortem scheduled for later today or tomorrow at Wellington Hospital and results from our scene examination will give us a clearer picture of what has happened," Mr Borrell said.
