KEY POINTS:
Two separate alleged hit-and-run incidents in the Flaxmere area of Hastings are being investigated by police.
Sergeant Clint Adamson said the first happened when a car carrying seven people and travelling along Omahu Rd was hit by another car pulling out of Twyford Rd at about 6.35pm.
The family's car crashed onto its side, leaving a child with a leg injury and other occupants with suspected leg, back and neck injuries.
"The other car did not stop at all and drove off into Flaxmere before being lost by a witness who had been following it," Mr Adamson said.
It was described as a dark blue, 1999 Honda Accord with the registration number XR3366.
At about 9.40pm, a 30-year-old man in a wheelchair was hit by a car as he tried to cross Hudson St in Flaxmere.
Mr Adamson said he was thrown onto a lawn and taken to hospital for observation. The wheelchair was significantly damaged.
The driver initially stopped, but then got back into his blue, Nissan Cefiro car, registration ECK781.
Police were appealing for the driver of either car to hand themselves in, and urged any members of the public who knew of the vehicles to phone Hastings police in confidence.
