A Taranaki infant with life-threatening injuries is in Auckland's Starship Hospital while police conduct an investigation into the cause of his injuries.
The six-month-old boy from Eltham was transported from New Plymouth Hospital via rescue helicopter after a specialist raised concerns of shaken baby syndrome.
Sergeant Mark Johnson from Stratford CIB says a detective flew up to Auckland on Friday to head the investigation. He said the police were alerted to the case by New Plymouth hospital staff the day after the infant was admitted. He would not comment on possible charges at this time.
