Police are investigating whether an arsonist has been targeting schools in the Hutt Valley, north of Wellington at the weekend.
Police communications Sergeant Mark Oliver said the first of three suspicious fireswas at Taita College in Taita on Saturday night, where a class room block and a staff work room were found alight.
Firefighters requested police assistance for traffic control while extinguishing the blaze, he said.
Last night a ground keeper's shed was set alight at Naenae College in Naenae and at about 40 minutes later at 6.10pm firefighters were called to a fire at the rear of nearby St Bernadettes School.
The fire at St Bernadettes School was extinguished before any major damage was caused, Mr Oliver said.
Police were investigating whether the fires were connected, he said.
