KEY POINTS:
A senior police detective is investigating allegations made by an author against Solicitor-General David Collins.
Detective Superintendent Rod Drew confirmed today he was continuing his investigation into a complaint Anne Hunt made some time ago to police about alleged inaccuracies in an affidavit made by Dr Collins.
Mrs Hunt, a Horowhenua district councillor, and Dr Collins have been in a legal dispute over the book Broken Silence she wrote about a woman who had sued her former therapist for sexual abuse.
Dr Collins had been the woman's lawyer and Mrs Hunt's dispute with him centred on whether he vetted parts of the book's manuscript to avoid breaching court orders and confidentiality.
After the book was published the therapist successfully sued Mrs Hunt for being in contempt of court. But High Court orders, including a ban on Broken Silence, were overturned in the Court of Appeal last year.
The story of the investigation was broken by Investigate magazine editor Ian Wishart.
Mr Wishart has broken several stories which embarrass the Labour Government. The Attorney-General David Parker was stood down, then reinstated to Cabinet, after Investigate raised questions over the returns he filed for his company, Queens Park Mews.
Investigate also revealed several complaints against former Social Development Minister David Benson-Pope, when he was a teacher at Bayfield High School in Dunedin.
