KEY POINTS:
Rotorua police, still hunting last week's road rage gunman, are now investigating a second road rage attack.
The unrelated attack happened when 20 gang members, believed to belong to either the Black Power or Westside gangs, smashed up a car containing three frightened teenagers on their way to a baptism on Sunday.
Last Thursday night a 32-year-old man was shot twice in the face and once in the arm with a high-powered air rifle by a driver who said he had been driving too close behind him.
He was still on the run this morning.
In the latest attack, a group of youngsters were driving to a baptism in broad daylight when set upon by a group of 20 people in four cars.
The 18-year-old driver, who asked not to be name for fear of reprisals, told theDaily Post newspaper the attack happened after he overtook a van and the occupants started giving them gang gestures and yelling.
"I just laughed at them. The next thing they were throwing mugs at my car and giving us the fingers.
"I got really mad. I asked them if they threw something at my car and they said 'yeah, what are you gonna do about it?"
The vehicles pulled over and three other vehicles following the van got involved.
The group of about 20 kicked the car and smashed the vehicle's rear windscreen, he said.
