Police investigate reported gunfire in west Auckland

Shots have reportedly been fired in the West Auckland suburb of Massey this afternoon.

Inspector Ian Brooker said the Armed Offenders Squad was sent to an address in Kopi Place at around 4pm.

Mr Brooker said it appeared there was a dispute between neighbours, possibly over a theft allegation.

"Police have a number of witnesses to interview and a number of addresses to search before details of the incident will be able to be confirmed.

"At this stage it cannot be confirmed that a shot was in fact fired and contrary to early reporting, no one has gunshot injuries, no one was taken hostage and no one was walking the streets with a firearm,"
Mr Brooker said, referring to reports from TVNZ.
