KEY POINTS:
Police in Wellington have confirmed they are investigating a case of poisoning at an animal testing centre.
The Malaghan Institute, based at Victoria University, is a leading research centre investigating cures for cancer, asthma and other illnesses.
It is thought a malicious email was sent to staff the week before last, and days later a bottle of acid was left in a staff fridge.
It is believed a bottle of milk was then spiked with poison on Wednesday and two staff drank it.
The facility has since tightened security.
Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Perry is expected to release further details on Tuesday.
