Police are investigating a homicide in the township of Murupara, about 65km south east of Rotorua.
The body of a 17-year-old male was found in a driveway about 1.50am, Rotorua Acting Area Commander Inspector Greg Sparrow said.
The youth was taken to Rotorua Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police were not releasing the teenager's name until next of kin had been advised, Mr Sparrow said.
