Detectives are investigating a crash in Porirua that left a woman dead at the weekend.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, of Porirua CIB, said today that the 35-year-old woman fell out of a car on Tangare Drive, Elsdon, about 10.10pm on Saturday and was then struck by another vehicle.
"The woman, from Titahi Bay, was travelling south from Titahi Bay Rd and fell out from the back seat of a moving car.
"She was then hit by a car travelling north."
Mr Oxnam said that the accident investigation was still in its early stages and police were appealing for witnesses.
The woman, who has not been named, was one of four people who died on the roads at the weekend.
Ruth Beverly Redwood, 60, of Thames Coast, was killed in a three-car collision in Whenuapai, west Auckland on Saturday morning.
The cars collided at the intersection of Mamari and Brigham Creek roads.
Five or six other people were taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries, Sergeant Stu Kearns said.
A 69-year-old man died in a crash on State Highway 1 north of Brynderwyn Hill, in Northland, about midday yesterday.
The road was closed for about three hours with diversions in place.

He was 28-year-old Jeremy Robert Conder, a farm worker from Okato, 26km southwest of New Plymouth, police said.
The crash happened on Wiremu Road, near Okato.
