A scene examination is continuing after a woman was found dead following a house fire in the Bay of Plenty in the early hours of this morning.
Police were notified of the fire at approximately 4.30am and a scene examination was ongoing.
There was nothing at this stage to suggest the fire was suspicious, however further enquiries would need to be made, a police spokeswoman said.
The fire service was called to the Howell Street property in Taneatua, 13km south of Whakatane, northern fire communications shift manager Colin Underdown said.
The house was well alight when fire crews arrived, he said.
