Police, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, and Motor Sport officials are all investigating the events surrounding the death of a rally driver.
The 54-year-old had just crossed the finish line on the first forest stage of the Straight-N-Paint rally just outside Hanmer Springs, when he crashed into a tree.
He died at at the scene, while his co-driver was flown to Christchurch Hospital with head and back injuries. He was in a serious but stable condition last night.
President of Motorsport New Zealand Shayne Harris says he expressed his sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of the crash victims and says officials were investigating.
Investigations from the police and the Ministry will also continue today.
