Police are investigating the death of a four-month-old baby in Morrinsville overnight.
Matamata-Piako senior sergeant Rod Carpinter said police were called a property on Gummer Place early this morning.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the baby's sudden death, he said.
"Police are currently acting on behalf of the coroner and are working with the family to deal with the trauma of the sudden death of their four-month-old child and they are being offered assistance from victim support.
"We are also speaking to the family as we work to establish the circumstances leading up to the child's death while at the same time supporting them through their ordeal at this time."
