A post mortem examination will be carried out to identify a body found in a river south-east of Auckland.
A kayaker came across the body in the Wairoa River at Clevedon yesterday afternoon.
Senior Sergeant Denise Trail says it is proving difficult to identify the body because it has been submerged in the river for up to two weeks amid warm temperatures.
Officers are looking through missing persons files and talking with people in the area.
