Police are investigating after a man was found dead and a woman seriously injured at a house in south Auckland today.
Neighbours called police to a house on Puhinui Road, Papatoetoe, shortly after 10am.
Police inspector Mick Woods says the woman, 42, had serious injuries to the back of her neck and arm and it appeared she had been stabbed. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was at the scene.
"Upon arrival at the scene we found a woman in her 30s with some serious injuries that appear to be the result of some kind of weapon, and also a male was found deceased at the address," Mr Woods said.
The woman was taken to Middlemore Hospital where she is undergoing surgery. The dead man was aged 69.
The woman and deceased man were family members but Mr Woods said police were "yet to clarify exactly what the relationship is until we've spoken to wider members of the family", Mr Woods said.
Police were speaking to other people at the address but were not seeking anyone else in relation to the death of the man, 69.
A neighbour said he heard screaming coming from the house around 10am and a woman covered in blood walked out of the house.
