Police are investigating a suspected homicide after a seven-year-old boy died in Nelson today.
Ambulance staff alerted police about 11.40am today after attending to a report of an unresponsive child at a property in the suburb of Stoke, Detective Inspector John Winter said.
He said the boy and his parents were the only people at home when emergency services arrived.
Ambulance staff had tried but failed to resuscitate the child.
His parents were helping police with their inquiries and no one else was being sought over the death at this stage, Mr Winter said.
