Kapiti Coast Police are investigating an abandoned car that appears to have blood all over it.
St John and police were called to Valley Rd in Paraparaumu around 7.20am - but didn't find anyone in the car.
Police were trying to contact the registered owner of the car and have now determined that the driver is in hospital in a stable condition.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
