Police inundated with assault complaints

It has been a night of disorder in the Auckland region, with police dealing with a string of callers complaining of assault.

Officers attended more than a dozen functions where fights had broken out.

One was an Indian wedding on the Te Atatu Peninsula, where 15 men were exchanging blows.

One man suffered a fractured skull in an altercation at Ramarama.

Police seized weapons including axes, fence palings and baseball bats and they say the common factor in all the trouble was alcohol.
