"I was sitting in the driver's seat and they came to try and grab the key out of my car," he said.
"I came out of the car and at the same time three or four [more] came over and started to push me and started to punch me."
The man, who was also attacked in downtown Auckland two years ago, said he tried to run but slipped and was set upon by the mob.
"I saw a few people [watching], but no one came to help.
"I really appreciate a girl who tried to help me when I was calling police but other people were just watching the show."
A 17-year-old woman has been charged with common assault and shoplifting from a previous incident, police said.
