An Auckland security guard will be offered trauma counselling after he was robbed at gunpoint for the second time at a west Auckland mall today.
Two men, believed to have been armed with sawn off shotguns, fled with two cash boxes after they menaced two Armourguard security guards servicing an ATM outside the National Bank in Glenmall Place in Glen Eden shortly after 9am.
Police said the robbers pulled up in a dark grey Subaru Legacy station wagon.
"One has got out and demanded the cash boxes. They have left with a couple of boxes and have driven up Captain Scott Rd," Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown told NZPA.
He said no shots were fired but one of the guards was slightly hurt and both were very shaken.
He said it was the second time one of the guards had been robbed at gunpoint.
"He is a little bit shakey to say the least."
Mr Brown said it was too soon to say how much money was taken.
Tonight it was reported the Subaru, which had been stolen the previous night from Grey Lynn, had been found at Glenora Bears Rugby League Club, a few minutes away from where the robbery took place.
Police want anyone who saw the car or the robbers to contact them.
