Police have identified a woman whose body was found after a possible hit and run in Waikato early today.
She was Catherine Matson, 43, of Matamata.
Ms Matson's body was found on the verge of State Highway 24 near the intersection with Garland St on the outskirts of Matamata at 5.30am, Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said.
She had been seen walking south along the road about 1.30am and police were asking anyone who saw her to come forward.
Police also wanted to hear about any vehicles that had sustained damage since last night or were seen in the area.
Members of the public had contacted police with information about the alleged vehicle, a police spokeswoman told NZPA.
The cause of Ms Matson's death could not be confirmed until a post mortem was held tomorrow, police said.
