Police identify body in burnt-out car

Police have identified the man whose body was found in a burning car at a Lower Hutt property last week.

The body of the 63-year-old man was found inside a green Subaru Imprezza station wagon in a secluded area outside a suburban Belmont house on Friday morning.

Lower Hutt CIB Detective Sergeant Dean Simpson said police had now formally identified the man and were not treating the death as suspicious.

The matter had been referred to the coroner.
