Police have named a man found dead in his Johnsonville home with multiple wounds to his body on Tuesday evening.
Police were called to the house of Matthew John Hall, 35, shortly after 6.15pm.
NZPA news agency said it understood the man's body was found stabbed in bed.
A post-mortem examination last night found the preliminary cause of Mr Hall's death was from the wounds to his body, police said.
Officer in charge of the investigation Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said police would conduct a scene examination on his Broderick Rd house today.
He appealed for information from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the Broderick Rd area in the afternoon or early evening on Tuesday.
"We are now looking for the person or persons responsible for Mr Hall's death and are making steady progress with our enquiries to date, but it is still very early stages in the investigation."
