Police have identified a body found in the Waikato River this morning but will not release the name of the 38-year-old man until their family are all informed.
Forensic evidence played a significant part in helping to identify the body recovered from the river near Comries Ave.
Detective Paul Van der Zee of the Hamilton CIB said police were called to the eastern river bank at about 7.30am.
"A member of the public reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the river and the police rescue boat was launched to help conduct a recovery operation," he said.
"Following on from the successful recovery of the body a number of forensic examinations have been carried out which have enabled us to identify the person as being a 38-year-old Hamilton man reported missing from his home on 20 August."
