Police in Christchurch are investigating a rape reported early this morning.
Inspector Bob Palmer, of the police southern communication centre, said a woman knocked on the door of a central Christchurch house about 4.20am and told the occupant she had been raped about 10 minutes earlier.
Police rushed to the address, but were unable to locate the man she described.
Mr Palmer said the alleged offender was last seen on Fitzgerald Ave.
An area at the corner of Avonside Drive and Fitzgerald Ave was cordoned this morning as police continued their investigation.
