Whakatane police are hunting for Errol Tumarae after shots were fired in the Waimana area, 25km south-east of Whakatane, last night.
Sergeant Andrew O'Reilly said police were called to a Taneatua address about 10pm. About an hour later, shots were fired in nearby Waimana.
Police wanted to hear of any sightings of Tumarae, a 30-year-old Maori, in relation to the incidents.
He was armed and dangerous and should not be approached, Mr O'Reilly said.
