KEY POINTS:
Police in Christchurch are looking for the driver of a car carrying a passenger dressed as a panda after a hit-and-run in the city.
Police said a woman suffered back injuries as the parked car she was getting into was struck from behind by a red car on Riccarton Rd about 2.25am on Saturday
The impact threw the woman into the front seat and ripped off the driver's door. A passerby flagged down a police car as the woman lay injured in her car.
Constable Moira Wyeth, of Christchurch police, said the red 1990s four-door sedan failed to stop after the crash and police were seeking witnesses or anyone who knew who was involved.
A person dressed in a panda suit was seen hanging out of the front passenger window of the red car and may have been injured.
The car had three or four occupants, including the driver, with a blonde-haired woman in the rear seat.
