KEY POINTS:
Two men have been charged and two "dangerous" men are being hunted by police after an aggravated robbery and shooting.
Two farmers were robbed and shot at, with one of them suffering facial injuries, while two other men were assaulted during the incident on Wanganui River Road on October 3.
Two men from Waverley, aged 37 and 22, have been charged with being party to attempted murder and aggravated robbery and police say more charges are pending.
They are due to reappear in Wanganui District Court on October 28.
The police inquiry team of Operation River was now hunting others believed involved in the incident including Earl Waitokia, 32, and Turaahui Wiari, 27, both from the Wanganui area, Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward said.
"They are considered to be dangerous and should not be approached," he said.
Police have set up a cellphone number of 027 556 1806 to receive calls and txt messages with information. Alternatively people with information can ring Wanganui Police Station on 06 349 0600.
Mr Coward said the incident was an isolated one which "thankfully did not result in life threatening injuries but it doesn't lessen the seriousness with which we view it".
"We have been working closely with the rural community throughout the last week and we will continue to reassure them and communities throughout Wanganui that this type of offending will not be tolerated.
"We will not tolerate lawlessness, no matter where it takes place."
