Police are hunting for a man for the kidnapping of a Timaru college student after school yesterday.
The 16-year-old girl, understood to be a pupil at Roncalli College, was dragged into a black car about 3.30pm at the intersection of the Hassall St and Harper St.
The car stopped on Claremont Rd, near Timaru's Scenic Reserve, shortly after 4pm and the girl escaped.
She was seen crying and got help from a man walking his dog in the reserve.
Detective Anita Osborne, of Timaru CIB, said the girl was "very shaken and upset" by her ordeal.
Police used dogs to search areas of the park, but the girl's abductor was still at large this morning.
He is described as tall and slim, in his late 20s or early 30s and wearing black clothing with a hoodie and black sunglasses.
Ms Osborne said there were people in the area at the time and police would like to hear from them.
