Police are hunting a man who robbed the Edgeware Post Shop in Christchurch on Tuesday.
The man entered the Post Shop, on the corner of Edgeware Rd and Sherborne St, just after 5pm and loitered for about 10 minutes before approaching counter staff and demanding money.
He told staff he had a gun in his bag, but it was not seen by any witnesses, said Detective Sergeant Sarah Illingworth.
He was given cash and left through the car park at the back of the shops.
The robber is described as Caucasian with olive or tanned skin, about 1.8m tall. He was wearing dark cargo pants, a dark coloured shirt with a white t-shirt underneath, and a distinctive beanie hat. He was carrying a red and blue sports bag.
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and who may have seen this person or anything unusual is asked to contact police.
The robbery occurred the same day as a man robbed a Post Shop in the Wellington suburb of Miramar.
He, too, waited on the premises for "some minutes" before threatening the teller with a gun and demanding cash.
Police said they were becoming increasingly concerned at the frequency of these types of robberies.
